Last week, the Chicago Booth Distinguished Speaker Series invited the community to a fireside chat with legendary investor and Chicago Booth’s namesake, David Booth, ‘71, as well as Professor and Nobel Laureate Eugene “Gene” Fama. Dean Rajan provided a captivating introduction and Bloomberg columnist, Barry Ritholz, moderated the conversation, which provided an entertaining and illuminating deep dive on the nature of Booth and Fama’s relationship, as well as their thoughts on the evolution of investing over the years.

Chicago Booth’s CABG Celebrates Nigerian Independence Day

At Chicago Booth, diversity is celebrated as an essential ingredient for creating a rich and vibrant environment. One of the ways Booth supports diversity is through the initiatives from the Chicago Africa Business Group (CABG), whose mission is to build a close-knit community for the growing number of Chicago Booth students with a strong interest in issues, events, and activities related to Africa. This group aims to provide professional support, social interactions, and educational opportunities for their members, and one of their top objectives includes promoting awareness of African culture and heritage within the Booth community.

Keep Austin Weird: A Boothie’s Take on Life & VC in Austin

Austin, TX, affectionately nicknamed Silicon Hills due to many of the biggest tech companies calling it home, is a hotbed for technology and innovation. In fact, the motto “Keep Austin Weird” is intended to promote small business and entrepreneurship in the city. Austin has been voted the No. 1 Best Place to Live in America by U.S. News for three years in a row—based on affordability, job prospects, and quality of life. After spending last summer in the Bay Area through Booth’s Pre-MBA Startup Summer program and wanting to try something different, these were three critical factors that attracted me to this city.

Get to Know David Noel

I’m originally from Miami, FL and after getting my degree in economics from the University of Central Florida, I worked in investment banking at Deutsche Bank. After realizing that I wanted to get more involved with strategy, I transitioned into working at a boutique creative agency helping startups and e-commerce companies with their customer acquisition and digital media strategies. Working with startups in this capacity is what got me excited about entrepreneurship, and eventually led me to enroll at Chicago Booth.
