When thinking about what we wish we had known while applying for MBA programs, the team had a lot of different answers and advice. Here’s our Top 5.
On behalf of The Booth Experience team and our entire Chicago Booth community, congratulations to the Class of 2020 Round 2 admitted students!
Whether you’ve dreamed of getting your MBA since grade school or made a more recent decision to pursue your business degree, we are so excited for you! Congratulations — you earned it! This is a really special time, so make sure to soak it in and celebrate!
Welcome to the Booth Family!
This fall, the Chicago Booth community welcomed 582 first-year students who are embarking on a journey of a lifetime. As always, Booth’s student body covers a wide array of industries and functions, and no two Boothies are alike. All at the same time, there’s a common theme that ties students together. According to Kurt Ahlm, Booth’s Associate Dean of Full-Time Admissions, it’s being “life-long learners who are always open, exploring, and never satisfied.”
We invite you to dive into what makes Booth unique through 11 in-depth profiles of remarkable students, published on Poets & Quants, the world’s leading MBA website. Through this overview, you can see how diverse the paths are leading to Booth and hopefully, find a story that resonates with yours. You can also learn about how the Chicago Booth Full-Time MBA Program is a great fit to a U.S. Navy Special Warfare Officer, a retired NFL Athlete, and a Sony Product Manager who led The Chainsmokers’ international marketing.
Thanks to those inspirational 11 individuals getting introspective and candid about their journeys and motivations, we not only get a glimpse into Booth’s qualitative edge, but also are reminded of the Chicago Booth primal question: “Why are you here and not somewhere else?”
Many of you come to this site with a goal of learning more about what’s it’s like to be a student at Chicago Booth, and hopefully throughout the year we’ve been able to provide plenty of information in that domain. Much of what we write about is intended to give you insight into The Booth Experience (ohh, that’s the reason for the site name!), and even a tip or two for what to say in the interview room.
One of the aspects of Booth that I hadn’t previously considered when I started my first year back in August 2015 was what it was like to sit on the other side of the table as applicants filed in one after the other. I interviewed on campus so I did meet with a student, but I guess it sort of slipped my mind that these roles needed to be filled by upcoming classes.
After spending the last year as an Admissions Fellow, I can finally look back on what that ride has been like. What started as a fairly competitive process for being selected is now ending with a chance to pass along the responsibilities to the next great batch of students in the Class of 2018. It’s been a really fun experience, and an influential one in terms of my progression while at Booth.
For many admitted students from our Round 2 application cycle, this weekend will include a trip to Chicago for First Day festivities! We’re hoping those visiting are as excited as we are to get the show on the road and I can personally attest to the hard work our First Day has put in to make this a memorable few days and a pivotal moment in the decision on which business school to attend (Booth is the best!).
I remember my First Day experience two years ago centered on several things; learning about the school, learning about my classmates, and learning about the city of Chicago. It’s tough to fit it all in one weekend but our fellow classmates and Admissions staff here do a fantastic job giving admits access to as much information as can be handled in order to make an educated choice on attending.
