Becoming a Father During my MBA

Our daughter was born during the summer between our first and second year of MBA. In the month she was born, people often asked me how I felt being a father. Truth was, I felt immense love towards my daughter right away; but other than that, I wasn’t particularly different from the way I was before.

Just like in many other aspects of life (MBA included), change often happens through a process, not through a single event. It can take a while for us to change, and even longer for us to realize how we have changed. My daughter is now 10 months old, and I can see much more clearly three main ways in which I’ve been transformed.

Cheers to my Fiancée, Valentine, and favorite Boothie!

When my girlfriend Melanie decided to enroll at Booth and move here to Chicago I was thrilled, mainly because we had been long distance for several years and I was excited for us to live in the same city. But honestly, I wasn’t sure what exactly to expect in terms of how busy she would be, how much homework and class she would have, how much partying there would be, and if the Turkey Drop was actually a thing (yikes!).

The Booth (Partners) Experience

It’s pretty crazy how fast time in Chicago has passed. I remember first moving here with Justin and feeling nervous, not knowing what to expect. It was also my first time leaving Texas. I honestly expected Justin wouldn’t really have much time to spend with me (which proved not to be true); that he’d be busy with recruiting and Booth events, leaving me at home.

So, I made sure to not be a homebody— I told myself I needed to be very proactive when I moved here and joined the Booth Partners Club almost immediately. I joined in on some of the Booth festivities whenever open to partners of students. A few TNDCs have been attended… (much to my regret the morning after). I went to as many events as I could to make friends. I wanted to make sure I had a good network of my own while living in Chicago.

#TBT Spring Flung: Masquerade Boat Party!🎭⛵

This past Saturday, the Graduate Business Council (GBC) hosted Spring Fling, a 400-person, all you can eat dinner cruise around Lake Michigan! Last year’s theme was tropical beach party, but we decided to class it up this year with a masquerade party! Here are some of our favorite photos! 🎭⛵🌅

Share the love: V-DAY inspired experiences at Booth

While business school might not seem like the most romantic place on earth, Chicago Booth is full of surprises. Looking back at this week at Booth, I got to participate in two stellar events that turned my Valentine’s week into the most memorable to date.
