Throughout the recruiting process, people advised me to keep
in mind the “airport test,” i.e., to answer the question, “Would I want to hang
out with these people if we were stuck together in an airport for four hours?” During
my summer internship, I had an extreme experience of the airport test come to
fruition. While driving back from a client site three hours away, my team and I
got stuck in an 8-hour traffic jam due to an accident on the highway. After a
long week, while such a situation was extremely painful, we made the most of it,
sharing music that we like, speaking about our experience at Booth, and even
celebrating our manager’s birthday in the car with a bar of chocolate we found
in our bags. To say the team passed the airport test with flying colors, would
be an understatement!
I spent my summer at McKinsey and Co.’s Chicago office,
working on a large digital transformation project for a public sector client. The
best part about the experience—the team was made up of four Boothies (one each
from the MBA class of ’17, ’18, ’19, and ’20)!

As a first year MBA student, it’s easy to get swept away by singling in on consulting or investment banking recruiting. However, for me, as the recruiting process kicked into high gear at the end of October, the Net Impact 2017 Conference was a refreshing opportunity for me to join like-minded individuals dedicated to arriving at careers focused in social impact.
A dozen of us Booth students took the trip to Atlanta, GA, the site of this year’s conference, to learn about our “Path to Purpose,” this year’s theme for the annual social impact event. If the conference provided the “path,” the Booth Net Impact co-chairs were our mountain guides.

Product management has become the darling of the tech world with the boom in startups, and as more companies become savvy to the value of having good product managers in place. The job description varies from company to company, yet there are some overall aspects that remain consistent. Still, it’s hard to wrap one’s head around this fairly ambiguous role. To understand more about what the heck product managers do exactly, I recently attended a Product Management (PM) boot camp hosted by one of our alumni, Satyajeet Salgar, ’07, who currently leads Google Search.
Satyajeet has had a very interesting couple of years at Google where he worked with teams at YouTube, Google Play Games, and Google+. He’s led some incredible product launches and I could trust no one better to help me understand the ins and outs of product management.

If you asked me to name one attribute of the Booth MBA that stands out to me – I would say that the Booth experience is one of depth. Depth in academic immersion, depth in professional relationships, and depth in leadership.
This depth of leadership and accomplishment was celebrated last month at the 2017 Chicago Booth CFO Conference – an annual gathering of Booth alumni who helm finance at the most inspiring global companies. The range of experiences, tenures, and industries is staggering – as well as testimony to the powerful impact that these CFOs have in shaping the corporate world in North America, and globally.

It’s a great opportunity to learn more about companies that don’t recruit on campus as well as experience firsthand the culture of companies that do recruit on campus.
