First Second Year Duty: Leading a Random Walk

As an incoming first year, I went on a Random Walk to Vietnam—it was by far the best decision I made since coming to Booth. I got to know 15 amazing people from all over the world, share unforgettable experiences, and build lasting relationships. A large contributing factor to the success of my Random Walk was my amazing trip leader team. As a second year, I knew I wanted to pay it forward and do the same for the next incoming class. I got together with three of my classmates to help plan and execute (hopefully) the best Random Walk ever – this time to Iceland!

TBE #TBT: Random Walks

With the Class of 2020 only a few weeks away from their first day of Orientation, many of the incoming first-years are about to adventure out all over the world on their first-ever Random Walk. Introducing: Random Walk New Orleans

Why am I here and not somewhere else?  I think this question is my constant reminder to keep striving toward my goals and to create change.  I came to Chicago Booth, because I truly felt that only here could I explore my ideas and have the resources necessary to ensure their success.  The ability to follow your passions and to create new initiatives is endless so long as you have the drive to see the work through.  I knew that Booth would give me both the opportunity and the toolkit to create and lead in the capacity that I wanted whether instituting a student group, launching a business venture, or establishing a never before visited Random Walk destination.

For me, this type of leadership involves constantly affecting change.  I believe that when I see a problem, I can and should work to implement a solution to solve for the problem.  It is up to me to be the change—not someone else.

First few months full of First-time experiences

The first three months in Booth gave me so many “First-time ever experiences.” I am busier than when I was as an investment banker!

Surprisingly, there are so many “First-time ever experiences” since I started my Booth journey this summer. It is more than expected that there is so much going on in Booth! As I was an investment banker before coming to Booth, I got used to being busy. However, I have been overwhelmed by the life in Booth and have to manage my time allocation more than ever (in a good way). Let me share with you some highlights from my Booth Experience so far this first quarter!
