Austin, TX, affectionately nicknamed Silicon Hills due to many of the biggest tech companies calling it home, is a hotbed for technology and innovation. In fact, the motto “Keep Austin Weird” is intended to promote small business and entrepreneurship in the city. Austin has been voted the No. 1 Best Place to Live in America by U.S. News for three years in a row—based on affordability, job prospects, and quality of life. After spending last summer in the Bay Area through Booth’s Pre-MBA Startup Summer program and wanting to try something different, these were three critical factors that attracted me to this city.

Deciphering Consumer Desires with Data

For Lindie Wang, ’19, understanding marketing and making the best decisions comes down to leveraging and understanding the limitations of data. Prior to attending Booth, I worked in education on the administration side as a data science and operations manager. My day-to-day varied tremendously. I enjoyed knowing that I made a difference and seeing the impact of my work. After four years in non-profit roles, I decided to take the plunge and apply to business school.

Get to Know David Noel

I’m originally from Miami, FL and after getting my degree in economics from the University of Central Florida, I worked in investment banking at Deutsche Bank. After realizing that I wanted to get more involved with strategy, I transitioned into working at a boutique creative agency helping startups and e-commerce companies with their customer acquisition and digital media strategies. Working with startups in this capacity is what got me excited about entrepreneurship, and eventually led me to enroll at Chicago Booth.

Get to know Daniel Cullen

My background is a bit different than some of my peers, so I was glad that the flexibility of Booth’s curriculum allowed me start my MBA exactly where I needed to be. I went to Princeton for undergrad where I majored in Politics and found my way to Breakthrough Fuel in Green Bay, WI, after graduating, where I became VP of Advisory Services. My post-MBA goal is to work in consulting and this summer I’m interning at Bain & Co.out in Boston.
