I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve been asked, “Why tech?” or “Why Microsoft?” No, it’s not because the CEO is a Booth alum (Hi Satya!). My answer is that I was seeking an experience completely unlike any other I’ve had before. Microsoft represented the greatest departure from my past professional experiences that I could find.
Packing for my internship in California, I faced mixed emotions. On the one hand, I secured my dream internship and looked forward to exposing myself to the world’s hub of innovation: Silicon Valley. On the other hand, I was worried about departing from Chicago, a place I call home. “Will the Booth community and brand be as strong elsewhere?” – I asked myself. I have learned many new things during this fantastic summer, and here are some of my revelations about Booth.
My name is YaoYao Wang and I’m a first-year MBA at Booth. This past quarter I helped organize a West Coast Marketing Trek for my classmates over Winter Break. The trip provided great opportunities for Booth students to get a leg up in internship recruiting, get to know the great companies which hire Booth talent, and spend some quality time with classmates.
