Hispanic Heritage Month, from September 15 – October 15, celebrates the contributions of Hispanic-Americans who have influenced American culture for centuries. In celebration, The Booth Experience Team is highlighting students Juan Pagan, ’21, and Alexandra Salgado, ’21, as they share their unique experiences. This year, we are celebrating Latinx Heritage Month at UChicago with a series of events and festivities.
I grew up in the Southeast side of Los Angeles, in a predominantly blue-collar Latino neighborhood. My childhood was shaped by stories of heroism from the Mexican Revolution and weekend carne asadas (BBQ’s) surrounded by a close-knit family. The group trip to Japan has always been a popular one among students for Spring Break. During the week in between second and third quarter, those who sign up for the Japan Trek travel together to multiple cities throughout the country, including Osaka, Nara, Kyoto, and Tokyo. I still remember how stressful it was to submit my application for Chicago Booth. Agonizing over every detail, wondering what will tip the scales for the admissions committee, scanning Poets & Quants for insights, refreshing Clear Admit every 1.3 seconds or so—all while working a full-time job!
It’s exhausting. And with Round 2 applications due on January 3rd, I wanted to share my personal experiences on a few questions that I frequently chat about with prospective students preparing for essays and interviews…
