As the weather starts to get cold here in Chicago and recruiting season is in full swing, let’s take a look back on a time a few months ago when we were all just getting to know each other and our worries were less so on midterms and more so on remembering all your new classmates’ names. Thanks to all who participated in this year’s Random Walks. You appeared to have had amazing experiences to share and have instilled a healthy amount of FOMO in those who were not lucky enough to be on your trip. BoothRight is an annual Spring Break trip to Israel that is open only to second-year students. Because of its timing and awesome itinerary, BoothRight is the perfect way to finish the Booth MBA. Essentially, BoothRight is actually a student-led trip that is initiated and led by second-year Boothies from Israel (fun fact: Israel is among the most represented countries per capita in the Booth student body). Each year, a team of 4-7 Israelis takes the reigns and organizes the BoothRight trip for 100+ Boothies. While the reward in leading such a big and diverse group of business school peers is huge, there’s also a lot of effort involved in “making it work” spanning operational, financial, and marketing functions.
As a capstone to Orientation+, Booth’s almost 600 First Years (1Ys) engage in an epic evening of athletic and physical competition. Off the wave of the Triwizard Tournament at LOR (the 3 day, 2 night Leadership Orientation Retreat), defeated cohorts Davis, Gargoyles, Harper, Maroons, Nobels, Phoenix, Stuart, and Walker were itching for a rematch while victors Bond and Rockefeller were ready to defend their titles at any cost.
The Graduate Business Council (GBC), Booth’s student government, hosts community events such as these to build camaraderie and spirit amongst various large groups (years, cohorts*, affinity, etc) on campus. I’ll take you through the end-to-end planning process for how we made sure this event ran smoothly.
This fall, the Chicago Booth community welcomed 582 first-year students who are embarking on a journey of a lifetime. As always, Booth’s student body covers a wide array of industries and functions, and no two Boothies are alike. All at the same time, there’s a common theme that ties students together. According to Kurt Ahlm, Booth’s Associate Dean of Full-Time Admissions, it’s being “life-long learners who are always open, exploring, and never satisfied.”

Over the past several years, Booth has invested significantly in many areas of concentration outside of the traditional finance field. The Kilts Center for Marketing is one of the great beneficiaries of that effort.
