Learning Community from a Nobel Laureate

Last month, I attended the 36th Annual Fogel Dinner, along with scores of students, alumni, and staff from across the Chicago Booth community. Named in honor of the professor and Nobel laureate Robert Fogel, the Fogel dinner has become a time-honored tradition and a symbol of diversity and inclusion at Booth. Professor Fogel was an advocate for building community at the University of Chicago, especially for the under-represented and marginalized groups, such as African Americans.

A Campus of Colors: The Value of Global Diversity

There’s a certain irreplaceable benefit we gain from being in diverse communities.  It helps us think more broadly, consider opinions other than our own, and develop solutions to problems we may not have exposure to otherwise.  Here at Booth, our diversity is experienced in the variety of different perspectives, interests, and backgrounds of our students, faculty, and alumni, including our vast international community.

I myself am usually excited to tell people I was born outside of the United States.  It’s a distinguishing factor, a characteristic that makes me unique.  It has always helped add value in my ability to engage and connect with peers.  In fact, it has become a deep source of pride because my multi-cultural upbringing is very much attributable to who I am as a person.

It’s on us to make a change

Chicago Booth, in conjunction with several business schools around the country, honored the Black Lives Matter movement this past week.  Students and faculty gathered and dressed in black as a sign of solidarity and a desire to engage in dialogue about race relations in today’s United States.  These are my thoughts on a topic far too complex to fit an 800-word essay.

We are very happy to introduce the new “The Booth Experience” Team. We are 9 second year Boothies who will be posting content throughout the summer and the rest of the academic year to keep you up to date with the latest about life at Booth.

From where to live, to the best coffee shops in Chicago and the coolest places to go on a date, you’ll hear from us on a regular basis to give you an insider’s perspective on what it’s really like to go to Booth to pursue your MBA.
