The World is Your Classroom: Global Social Impact Practicum (Part I)

As Fall Quarter wraps up, most Boothies are gearing up for some much needed rest and relaxation. For fifteen of my classmates and me, however, our term is not quite over. Once our finals are complete this week, we will jet off to India as part of the Global Social Impact Practicum (GSIP), a class at Booth that marries innovation with social impact in an emerging market. The course is facilitated by the Rustandy Center for Social Sector Innovation, Booth’s destination for those committed to helping solve complex social and environmental problems.

International Business Exchange Program: My experience studying abroad in China

Booth offers the opportunity to spend 3 months abroad as part of its International Business Exchange Program (IBEP). The list of partner schools Boothies can study at spans 5 continents and 30+ schools, including London Business School, HEC Paris, IESE (Barcelona), CEIBS (Shanghai), Sydney Business School, Wits Business School (Johannesburg), etc. I decided to take advantage of this program and use my winter quarter to explore a new part of the world…China!

The Exchange Student Experience: Barcelona to Chicago

I wanted to talk a little about my Booth experience as an international exchange student. I’m originally from El Salvador, coming to Chicago Booth from IESE Business School in Barcelona, Spain. I’ve worked in several Latin American countries and I spent my summer internship in Barcelona, so I’m writing about both academic and cultural perspectives. As opposed to Booth, IESE is a case method school (much like Harvard) and each method has its pros and cons, but this blog is not about comparing. It’s about my experience at Booth as an outsider.

Studying Abroad in Madrid

I always knew that I wanted to do a semester abroad as a part of my Booth experience, but when the time came to choose, I was torn between all the options – Chile, Japan, South Africa, UK, Singapore – you name it! And all are among the best business schools in the world. I ended up choosing IE Business School in my favorite European city, Madrid! Using a very business-school approach, I will divide my experience so far into three main buckets: Academic Experience, Social Life, and Travelling.
